What Vegan Kids Eat

A Vegan Child’s Diet

Vegans choose not to eat:

 

  • Meat (pigs, cows, lambs, chickens, fish, shellfish, any other animals)
  • Dairy (cows milk, dairy ice cream, butter, cheese, milk powder, whey, rennet, milk products from any other animal)
  • Eggs
  • Honey
  • Gelatin (Most lollies have gelatin in them)
  • Non-vegan stock powders, animal fats, animal-based flavourings in snack foods, etc

 

Vegans Love to eat:

 

  • Fruit and Veges
  • Beans, lentils, legumes, nuts and seeds
  • Pasta, potatoes, grains, rice, wheat, polenta, couscous
  • Plant based meat-alternative products (tvp, vege sausages, vege burgers, chicken style strips, etc)
  • Soy products such as tofu and tempeh
  • Plant based milks (soy, rice, oat, almond, coconut) and vegan cheese
  • Vegan nachos, pizza, burritos, shepherds pie, stir fries, curries, chips, burgers, pies
  • Baking and sweets using vegan ingredients
Sample Vegan Childs Menu

Breakfast:

  • Porridge with almond milk and date puree or coconut sugar
  • Weetbix, cornflakes, rice bubbles or muesli with soy milk and fruit
  • Banana vegan pancakes (made with flax seed eggs) topped with maple syrup, blueberries and coconut yoghurt
  • Banana, chocolate or berry smoothie with chia seeds and oat milk
  • Toast with avocado and marmite, or peanut butter and banana

 

Lunch:

 

  • Sandwiches with peanut butter, marmite, jam, vegan cheese
  • Sandwiches or wraps with lettuce, tomato, vegan cheese, avocado, vegan pesto, hummus
  • Avocado Sushi or Inari Sushi
  • Baked beans on toast
  • Vegan cheese toasties
  • Homemade baking
  • Vegan pesto pasta
  • Vegan sausage rolls
  • Rice with miso soup

 

Snacks:

 

  • Crackers with hummus and avocado
  • Carrot sticks, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes and dips
  • Fruit! Bananas, apple slices, strawberries, watermelon, grapes
  • Popcorn or ready salted chips
  • Homemade vegan muffins or cookies

 

Dinner:

 

  • Nachos or tacos with bean mix and topped with hummus, tomatoes and vegan cheese
  • Vegan pizza
  • Shepherds pie using lentils or vegan mince substitutes
  • Vegan lasagne with veges, beans and a vegan cheesey sauce with soy milk
  • Vegan nuggets (store brought or homemade with tofu/tempeh) with mashed potato, peas and carrots
  • Vegan sausages with roast potatoes, brocolli and corn
  • Fried rice with peas, corn, brocolli, grated carrot and tempeh or vegan schnitzel sliced up.
  • Red lentil soup, carrot ‘bunny’ soup, potato & leek ‘crocodile’ soup
  • Sushi bowl with rice, edamame beans, avocado and teriyaki tempeh
  • Vegan burgers and homemade chunky chips
